Unlike her friend Mei Ling who focuses on contests, Lien is on the other end of the spectrum and focuses strictly on battling. She comes from a family of top trainers and is looking to keep the family name going strong. Her father currently holds the top spot at the Elite Four in Vietnam and her goal is to beat him and take the top spot for herself. Lien is a shy and private trainer; she largely avoids the media. She dreads giving interviews and doing photo ops but understands it's part of the job so she handles it as best she can. Lien's battle style is very attack-based and teaches her team the strongest attacks possible for them to learn.

Lien's first Pokemon was a Sewaddle (now a Leavanny), however her ace is her Volcarona.
