Basch is a big-name trainer in his home country of Switzerland, and is also well-known within most parts of Europe. He got his start in competitive battling at the same time as trainers like Roderich, Gilbert, and Erzsébet were beginning theirs as well. His techniques and training are very basic and old-school; he predominately focuses on defence. Basch has begun to slow down and doesn't battle as much as his peers do these days. However, he's fairly rich from his matches because of his heavy use of the Amulet Coin, a technique also used by a popular Dutch trainer. He now spends much of his time in Vaduz training Elise in competitive battling, while also attending her performances in contests.

Basch's ace and first Pokemon is his Gogoat. Owning one runs in the family and his paternal grandparents own their own Gogoat farm, where one was eventually passed down to him.
