Like his long-time rival João, Antonio was once a top-ranked trainer but a new generation of trainers have now surpassed him, putting him lower in the rankings. Unlike him however, Antonio is still very active in competitive battling and travels the world for tournaments. He was coached by some of Spain's best trainers and now returns the favour by passing his knowledge to new trainers. Antonio's style is spontaneous and never sticks to one method. He puts a heavy focus on both attack and defence. As long as he keeps winning battles, he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Antonio received his first Pokemon, Fuecoco, from the professor in Madrid. It also serves as his ace as a Skeledirge.
