City Lights

“Get me out of here,” was all that Denmark needed for her to grab her girlfriend by the hand and to drive away from the city life. Estonia virtually had no belongings on her with the exception of some clothes and her laptop (that she couldn’t stand to look at at the moment). Her phone was turned off for good measure. She didn’t want anyone to find them. Not her bosses, Latvia, Finland...

Absolutely no one.

The city lights hardly come on anymore at this time of the year. The sun never sets in the summer. She won’t miss them as Denmark drives around in the Estonian countryside where the trees go for as far as the eye can see. The windows were down and messes her short bob haircut but she couldn’t care less. Denmark had her phone attached to her car stereo and the beginning instrumentals of Waiting For A Girl Like You played loudly in the background. It doesn’t take long for Denmark to burst into song but Estonia doesn’t mind.

Finally, they reached the lake. Denmark hadn’t even turned off the vehicle when Estonia bolted from her seat. She kicked off her sandals and lifted up her royal blue sundress. The feel of the water against her feet was magical. Denmark comes to join her by the edge of the water but doesn’t join in on the fun. She’s more content to watch her girlfriend shine in the sunset instead.

Estonia can’t stay away from the city forever. She knows she’ll be back in a few days. But for now she is at peace.
